“America”, warns a large wooden sign in saloon-style script mounted at the entrance to the Parkvilla Rieter that houses the museum’s collection of Indian miniatures. The witty pointer signals to the viewer that the artist duo Wiedemann/Mettler (*1966/*1965), famed for works that are at once enigmatic and subversive, are setting out to foil are our own habits of seeing. They do this through recourse to historical Western and Indian conventions.
